  • 16 ounces sliced mushrooms, such as baby Bella or cremini
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 6 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2.5 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • fresh or dried parsley to garnish

Instructions

Make Meatballs

  • Add all the meatball ingredients minus the ground beef to a large mixing bowl. Use a fork to whisk in the egg and combine everything together. Add the ground beef. I use my clean hands and gently mix the beef until just combined. You don't want to overwork the beef mixture as it will make the meatballs tough. Use a small cookie scoop or roughly a tablespoon to form meatballs. You should end up with about 25 meatballs.
    1 egg
    1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 tbsp each- ketchup, Dijon mustard, and A1 steak sauce
    1 tbsp Worcestershire
    1 tsp Umami seasoning blend
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp pepper
    1 lb lean ground beef
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tbsp olive oil. Place meatballs in the skillet and brown on both sides until golden. They don't need to be cooked all the way through, just browned. Transfer to a plate.

Make The Gravy

  • While the pan is still hot add 1 more tbsp olive oil along with onions and mushrooms. Brown mushrooms and onions for 3-4 minutes. Transfer to the same plate as the meatballs.
    1/2 cup onions
    8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • To the same skillet add butter and melt. Add the flour and use a whisk to combine the butter and flour. Cook butter and flour for 30-seconds. Continue to use your whisk and add Worcestershire and chicken broth. Whisk until you don't see any more lumps and the gravy starts to thicken.
    3 tbsp butter
    3 tbsp flour
    2 tbsp Worcestershire
    1 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • Turn the heat down to low and add the meatballs and mushrooms/onions back to the skillet. Use a large spoon to gently combine the gravy with the meatballs. Simmer the meatballs on low for 5-6 more minutes or until fully cooked. Taste for seasonings and garnish with fresh or dried parsley and serve.
