10 Seasoning Mixes // Tales From an Empty Nest

TACO

Ingredients:

4 Tbsp chili powder

2 Tbsp cornstarch

2 Tbsp cumin

2 Tbsp smoked paprika

1 Tbsp salt

2 tsp garlic powder

2 tsp onion powder

2 tsp oregano

1 tsp pepper

1⁄4 tsp cayenne

Instructions:

I add 2-3 Tbsp homemade taco seasoning in place of 1 pkt of store bought taco seasoning.

Italian

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp oregano

1 Tbsp garlic salt

1 Tbsp sugar

1 Tbsp onion powder

1 Tbsp parsley

1 tsp pepper

1⁄4 tsp Italian seasoning

Instructions:

Whisk everything together in a bowl. Use 2-3 Tbsp in place of 1 pkt of store bought Italian

Rib Rub

Ingredients:

3⁄4 cup brown sugar, packed

2 Tbsp onion powder

2 Tbsp garlic powder

2 Tbsp Tony’s Creole Seasoning (or your favorite Cajun or Creole seasoning)

3 tsp pepper

2 tsp salt

5 tsp paprika

1⁄2 tsp cumin

1⁄2 tsp chili powder

Instructions:

Whisk everything together in a bowl. Apply liberally to ribs. (I’ve also used this on burgers.) This

should be enough for 2-4 slabs of ribs depending on how much you use.

Ranch

Ingredients:

1⁄2 cup buttermilk powder

8 tsp garlic powder

4 tsp onion powder

3 tsp dried dill

3 tsp parsley

3 tsp dried chopped chives

2 tsp salt

Instructions:

Whisk everything together in a bowl. Use 2-3 Tbsp in place of 1 pkt of store bought ranch

French Onion

Ingredients:

1 cup minced onion flak

1⁄2 cup beef bouillon powder

2 tsp onion powder

2 tsp garlic powder

2 tsp parsley

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp celery seed

1 tsp pepper

salt to taste

Instructions:

Whisk everything together in a bowl. Use 2-3 Tbsp in place of 1 pkt of store bought onion soup

Chili

Ingredients:

1⁄4 cup brown sugar

6 Tbsp chili powder

2 tsp paprika

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp cumin

1⁄2 tsp cayenne

1 1⁄2 tsp salt

Instructions:

Whisk everything together in a bowl. This is enough seasoning for 2 pots of chili. Use half the container for 1 pot of chili

Seasoned Salt

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp salt

1 Tbsp paprika

1 1⁄2 tsp sugar

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp turmeric

Instructions:

Whisk everything together in a bowl. Use according to your taste or the amount called for

Beef Stew Mix

Ingredients:

1 cup all purpose flo

3 Tbsp onion powder

3 Tbsp beef bouillon powder

2 Tbsp garlic powder

2 Tbsp paprika

1 Tbsp celery seed

1 Tbsp parsley

1 Tbsp salt

2 tsp oregano

2 tsp pepper

1 tsp basil

1⁄2 tsp thyme

1⁄2 tsp cayenne

Instructions:

Whisk everything together in a bowl. Add 1⁄4 cup of mix to 1 pot of beef stew or other dish.

Au Jus

Ingredients:

4 Tbsp beef bouillon

4 Tbsp cornstarch

4 tsp onion powder

2 tsp parsley

2 tsp garlic powder

1⁄2 tsp pepper

Instructions:

I blend mine in my high speed blender just to make it a finer powder. Add 2 Tbsp of mix with

cups of water to a pot and simmer for 4-5 minutes or until it slightly thickens.

Fajita

Ingredients:

4 tsp chili powder

2 tsp cumin

1⁄2 tsp cayenne

2 tsp sugar

3⁄4 tsp salt

2 tsp paprika

1 tsp oregano

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Instructions:

Whisk everything together in a bowl. Use according to your taste or the amount called for in

your recipe. This is enough 2 batches of fajitas.


Store in an airtight container
