Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk powder
  • 3/4 cup flour (or arrowroot powder)
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth powder (or bouillon)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients together, and store in a quart jar until ready to use.
  2. To make a "can" of cream of chicken soup, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a pot.
  3. Add 1/3 cup of your master mix and heat for 1 minute.
  4. Mix in 1 1/4 cup of cold water. Whisk well, and bring to a boil.
  5. Lower the heat a little, and cook until it thickens—about 5-7 minutes. Stir frequently.
  6. Remove from heat, and allow to cool for 3-5 minutes.
  7. Use in your recipe as you would a can of cream of chicken soup.

Notes

For Cream of Mushroom

Once the base mix comes to a boil, add 1 tablespoon of dehydrated, chopped mushrooms.

For Cream of Celery

Once the base mix comes to a boil, add 1 tablespoon of dehydrated, chopped or shredded celery.

Onion Soup Mix

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup beef bouillon (such as Orrington Farms broth base)
  • 1 cup minced onions, dried
  • 1/2 tablespoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the beef bouillon, minced onions, pepper, parsley, and salt.
  2. Mix well to ensure even distribution of ingredients. Crush any clumps of beef broth or salt with a fork.
  3. Transfer the mixture into a pint jar using a canning funnel for easier pouring.
  4. Seal the jar tightly, and store in a dark place for up to a year.

Cranberry Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 1 cup semisweet or dark chocolate chips
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup softened butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

To Make the Cookie Mix in a Jar

  1. Layer all of the dry ingredients in a jar. Store until ready for use. Do not vacuum seal (because it will cause the brown sugar to harden).

To Make the Cookies

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Beat the softened butter with 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  3. Mix in the contents of your jar.
  4. Bake for 12 minutes. Do not overbake!

    Notes

You can use whole rolled oats instead of "quick" oats. Just pulse them in a blender or food processor to break them up a bit.

    Pear Pancakes

    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda

    • 3/4 cup buttermilk powder
    • 3 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
    • 1 cup pear butter (or applesauce)
    • 1 1/2 cups water

    Instructions

To Assemble the "Meal in a Bag"

    To Make the Pancakes

    1. Empty contents of the bag into a large mixing bowl.
    2. Add the oil, water, and pear butter (or applesauce).
    3. For added moisture, you can add a fresh egg if you like.
    4. Mix well & cook pancakes as you normally would. Enjoy!
    Sweet Quick Bread Mix

    Ingredients

    • 2 1/4 cups of flour
    • 1 1/2 cups sugar
    • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (or pumpkin pie spice)
    • 1 1/2 cup milk
    • 3 eggs
    • 6 Tablespoons coconut oil (or vegetable oil)
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • Whatever mix-ins you like (chocolate chips, walnuts, cranberries, jams, etc)

    Instructions

TO MAKE THE "MIX IN A JAR"

    1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar.
    2. Mix well until all the dry ingredients are evenly incorporated.
    3. Store the mixture in airtight jars for later use.

    TO MAKE BREAD

    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan.
    2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
    3. Add the contents of the jar (Sweet Quick Bread Base Mix) to your wet ingredients.
    4. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
    5. If desired, add in your choice of mix-ins (see suggestions below).
    6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
    7. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    8. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

    Notes

Mix-ins do not require precise measurements. Add them according to your preference. I usually average about 1-2 cups total of mix-ins. A few of our favorites:

    • Dried cranberries
    • Pumpkin powder (rehydrated with water and pumpkin pie spice) or pumpkin puree
    • Chocolate chips
    • Mashed ripe bananas
    • Maple syrup
    • Chunked strawberry jam
    • Blueberry vanilla jam
