Apple Goodie Base // Q Kitchen
4 lbs mixed apples, cored and sliced. (You can peel them, but we prefer peels on)
1/2 c apple juice OR apple cider (we prefer and use cider)
1 Tbs lemon juice (we use concentrate)
1/3 c raw honey
1 Tbs dark brown sugar (can also use white sugar or light brown)
1/3 c orange juice
1-2 Tbs each: ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground nutmeg (OR 1/3 C pumpkin pie spice)
Directions:
1.) Place all ingredients EXCEPT apples into a stock pot large enough to add all apples in after liquid and spices come to a rolling boil.
2.) Bring contents to a rolling boil and stir until all spices, sugar and liquid are well blended.
3.) Gently add all sliced apples into mix and stir until every slice is covered in mix. Turn down to simmer and cover for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, remove from heat but leave covered for additional 10 minutes.
At this point, you can allow to cool for storing in refrigerator or freezer.
If using in a recipe, you can use mixture right away. You can add into oatmeal, Greek yogurt or just eat as is.
