Shelf Stable BBQ Beef and Beans in a jar // Wicked Prepared

 BBQ Beef & Beans

-1 c. freeze dried shredded beef -¾ c. ketchup powder -1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce powder -2 Tbsp. granulated brown sugar -1 Tbsp. tomato powder -¼ tsp. hickory smoke powder (optional) -¼ tsp. grill flavor powder (optional) 1½ c. instant beans (any combination of types I used black, red and pinto beans) -½ c. freeze dried onion slices -¼ c. freeze dried green chilis Layer ingredients in a wide-mouth quart size mason jar in the order listed. Tap and shake jar as necessary to settle ingredients. For longer term storage, add a 200cc oxygen absorber before closing jar. Label with name of dish and cooking instructions. To prepare meal, empty jar contents into large skillet. Add 3½ cups water and stir to moisten all ingredients, Cover and bring to a simmer over medium high heat. Turn heat to low and simmer, covered, 15 minutes or until beef and beans are tender and sauce has thickened. You can add more water a little at a time and continue to simmer if your ingredients don;t refresh all the way or if you want it saucier. Serve as is, or place mixture in a 9” round casserole dish and top with a small batch of cornbread batter. ( A Jiffy mix is the perfect size for this, Or see my just-add-water cornbread mix linked below!) Bake at 350 until cornbread crust is browned and cooked through.
